I know that Chris Bennie was looking into travel arrangements from this neck of the woods and there seemed to be a problem with taking vans/minibuses out of the country. We were thinking of taking the ferry from Rosyth to Zebrugge and driving down to Frankfurt from there as apparently it is only a days drive. Might even be quicker for you guys in the west to come over to Rosyth rather than driving all the way down south to catch a ferry or the eurostar?

I'll email Chris to see if he is interested in the accomodation thing and get him to pass on any new info he has about travel

I would be interested in the apartment but only if I can share with someone who does NOT snore !!! Chris might be interested too

I looked into travelling from Rosyth when the Marmotte was on my agenda for this year and was very surprised at how expensive it was. Elaine and I could have flown and hired a car for less.

Hi All
See below communication from Chris B - worth thinking about as it could save us a lot of money and hassle. Remember with Nirvana you don't need to take flights AND accomodation - you can have just accomodation or just flights - whatever suits you. I have been with Nirvana the last two IM and have had no problems whatsoever

What do you think ??

I think if we can get discount i would be more inclined to go with Nirvana than stay at the apartment

Cheers
sooz

Message from Nirvana:

Prices should be out 2 - 3 weeks but likely to be end of Aug.

I asked him about discount and he is happy to honour:
More than 10 people = 10% discount
More than 15 people = 15% discount

I'm not sure how far they will go if we take around 25 people but if the give that kind of discount then we could save a lot of time and money??

...and just for the record. If we get 100 people it doesn't mean we get 100% off the price

Alistair,
Not sure of my travel plans yet but from my very recent experience (and previous occasions) if you are booking a house I would definitely recommend taking it until the Tuesday morning :1062

I definately agree, I left on the Monday after IMCH and had to listen to all the Ayro guys partying all night while I had to strip the bike and repack for early morning flight :(

Sounds sensible - always happy to take informed opinion into account!

Trouble is, I've got no real committment from anybody yet, so not booking anything so far.
On the Rosyth ferry - only trouble is we would still need a vehicle big enough for us all? And I agree with Dougie on the cost - when I looked at it before it was outrageous.

If Nirvana looks to be economical enough, so be it, but when I enquired about the European Championships, their prices were all based on going from London!

Hi Ali
Both times I have gone with Nirvana I flew from Scotland. The first time we went from Edinburgh to Standstead then out to Slovenia from there. However, last year we flew direct from Edinburgh to Zurich so I guess it depends which airline they use as to whether you can get a direct flight or not.

However, it is probable that you can book accomodation only with Nirvana and make your own travel arrangements if you prefer.

My tuppence worth.

Still interested in apartment but worth seeing what Nirvana can come up with for accomodation only.

Still think we'd be best travelling by road and ferry. Cheapest and quickest option would still be a short hop from Dover.

Not keen on flying, all these strikes and companies going bust, not to mention changing flight times etc last minute,,,, and remember the volcano, don't rule out it happening again or worse its close neighbour.

Cheers,

Kenny

Haven't heard anything more about Nirvana, so resurrecting the Apartment idea

The one I was looking at is on the 4th floor, but has a balcony and plenty of room for bikes. It is located about 100m from the finish line, so ideal for crawling to afterwards, and there is transport from there to the start.

Details were posted earlier.
I have had the booking agent on to me again to see if we're still interested, so I don't think it will be there for ever.

Anyone still want to pursue this, or a smaller one?
Please let me know
